What affects the cost of a solar system
Every home in the Falkirk council area is a little different, which is why a written quote after a survey is the only accurate way to price a system. The main factors that influence cost are:
- System size. The number of panels you choose is driven by your roof area and your daily electricity use. A larger array generates more but costs more to install.
- Battery capacity. Batteries are sized in kilowatt-hours (kWh). A larger battery stores more surplus for evening use but adds to the total. Some households add panels first and a battery later.
- Roof type and access. A straightforward pitched roof with good access is quicker to fit than a roof with multiple valleys, dormers or difficult access, which can add labour time.
- Inverter and monitoring. The inverter converts the panels' direct current into usable alternating current, and monitoring lets you track generation. Options vary by system.
- Scaffolding and installation work. Most roof installations require scaffolding for safe access, which is included in a proper installed quote.
Why we quote after a survey, not from a price list
A solar PV and battery system is not an off-the-shelf product. Two houses on the same street in Larbert or Stenhousemuir can need different panel counts, different battery sizes and different installation approaches because of their roofs, their orientation and how the household uses electricity. A price list that does not account for these differences would be misleading, which is why we provide a written, no-obligation quote only after surveying your home.
During the survey we measure the usable roof area, check the orientation and pitch, note any shading, look at your current electricity use and discuss whether a battery makes sense for your pattern. The quote then sets out the proposed system, the installation work and the total, so you can decide with full information.
0% VAT on solar panels and batteries until 31 March 2027
The UK government has applied a reduced rate of 0% VAT to the installation of solar panels, battery storage and related equipment for qualifying domestic properties until 31 March 2027. This means the price you are quoted for an installed system does not have VAT added on top during that period. We will confirm how the reduced rate applies to your quote at the time.
